I can’t explain why I see you now

It seemed as though our time was wiped

For so long your face has been a blur

But now I can’t escape that sight

The end of days came as winter

Creeping unseen and killing the warm

Stealing my breath as a thief in the night

The death of summer I was left to mourn

Cold and unfeeling no hint of remorse

The windows to your soul shuttered and drawn

A lack of humanity and any emotion

Inside yourself you had already withdrawn

I see now that night and your empty eyes

Yet feel no loss for what we shared

Despair was fleeting as was your love

A glimpse of the future from which I was spared
