What once were barriers

Lie unseen by even me

The architect of their design

Now needs to be freed

No longer sure

Where they were placed

Lost in the chasms

In the maze I waste

A job so convincing

The mind now forgets

What it was protecting

The fears it suppressed

Maybe they dissolved

Or just washed away

Unable to stand

Against a brightening day

Perhaps they lie in wait

To return upon alarm

Strength that once was lacking

Enough to prevent harm

A shield created

Then held for years

Stood though battered

Now disappears
